People generally idealize the cork wine and believe that screw top wine is cheap wine. This is just a misconception that people have built without knowing the facts.
These days more prestigious winemakers are using the screw top wine bottle as the cork in wine bottles can allow oxygen to penetrate the bottle. This oxidation of the wine can and will ruin the wine. By using the screw top this problem is eliminated.
Screw tops are now considered as an alternative to organic cork. These screw top wine bottles closures mainly have aluminum alloy casing as its outer layer with an extended liner made of polyethylene. When the cap is squeezed, the liner is compressed thereby creating an airtight seal. This is exactly what the cork does.
