Who doesn’t love a holiday? It’s the time to cherish moments with family and friends. People love to entertain during holidays. They party or have casual get-togethers.
Be it anything, wine will always be a part of the menu. Holidays asks for some very special wines. In fact, few people even go for specialized wine holidays just to enjoy several types of wine on their holiday trip.
Here let’s discuss a few common wines that are enjoyed during holidays. It totally depends on the individual that how much they want to spend on entertaining others.
I will tell you about some inexpensive wines that can be enjoyed during the holidays. The reason I am discussing this is because this year has been a fiscal challenge for everyone and everyone is on a tight budget. However, it’s not that we need to stop partying, just to plan accordingly.
Good reasonable wines to serve
The most common wine used during holidays is champagne or sparklers. It is known as champagne if it comes from Champagne region of France and known as sparklers if produced outside that region. They are the most ideal beverage for a get-together. Mostly used to celebrate some of the special moments in life.
Next is Riesling that belongs to Germany. It is a white wine, no need to worry about your carpet while partying. The taste ranges from bone dry to super sweet. It has a slight fruity taste. In fact, it’s divided into six levels of sweetness. Out of which Kabinett is the driest wine and Eiswein is the sweetest. There are few things that are common between champagne and Riesling. Both has good acidity level, produced in cooler regions and can be served with many types of dishes.
White wines are most commonly used during holiday times, so why only go for usual Sauvignon Blanc. Instead, we can try few more wine from different countries like Albariño from Spain, Grüner Veltliner from Austria, Torrantes from Argentina, Brachetto d’Acqui from Piedmonte region in Italy and many more.
With holiday time how can we forget the Thanksgiving Day meal? And with turkey as the main meal on that day we need to choose wine to go with different types of Turkey dishes. Somebody offering fried turkey can offer Cortese from the Piedmonte in Italy; it’s going to be lovely combination. You can also try a sparkling Cava from Penedes in Spain. A glass of Riesling can also be a good idea to serve with the Thanksgiving turkey.
One of the other purposes of wine during the holidays other than serving is gifting. You can choose from large range of wines togive as a gift to your loved ones.
