Holiday time is near and you must be planning to throw party for your family and friends, but are afraid of having your new carpet, curtains or clothes spoiled as you had in last holidays.  Host cannot show displeasure in front of the guest when he/she spills a wine glass on the new carpet or tablecloth and especially when the wine is red.  And the pitiable guest just can’t stop acting contrite.

Home solutions to Clean Red White Stains

For immediate remedy to clean red wine stains you can use white wine if red wine is spilled over the carpet or any cloth as it reduces the effect of red wine and makes it easy to remove the color off the object.  You just have to pour white wine on the affected area and blot it with a thick cloth, but remember not to rub it.

Following is the list of some of the well tried and accepted solutions to clean red wine stains from your carpet and clothes.

  • If your clothing or carpet has wine stains then you can use soda to clean red wine stains because it is more effective than plain water.  Club soda, a carbonated drink, when poured on the area of stain carbonation occurs and help in removing the stain while the salt in the drink keep the stain from setting in the cloth/carpet.  Blot it with a sponge.  Then for washing the stained area you can use any light detergent and the mix onto the remaining stain.
  • In place of detergent you can also use glycerin mixed with water in equal quantities and remove the stain. You can also use hydrogen peroxide for tougher stains.
  • A very handy method to clean red wine stains is talcum powder and cornstarch.  Dust a small amount of talcum powder or cornstarch on the affected area.  It will absorb the wine stain.  Once the cloth/carpet is dry slowly shake it or use a soft brush to get the residual powder off.
  • Almost all people keep vinegar at home for different cleaning purposes, but few people know that it can be used to clean red wine stains. You can also use the normal cooking salt on the stain area as it will not let the stain settle on the carpet.
  • After cleaning the cloth with the stain remover, no matter which one you choose, remember to wash the cloth afterward. For carpet don’t forget to shampoo clean them as well.
